About me in 4 lines or so

Andrea Gerák (also spelled as Gerak) is a traveling artist from Hungary, mostly known as a singer. She is also photographing, dancing, writing, acting, modeling, and forever learning through her journey in the world, living out of a suitcase. Her attention turned to healthy living after a cancer surgery in 2008. Proud mom of a big boy.

Already as a child, I could spend hours with just looking at photos and arranging the family albums, and I always posed happily when my father would take shots of us with his old Russian machine Lubitel and how excited I was when he allowed me to shoot a few pictures!!!

In my late teens, when I began touring in Europe with the folk dance groups, I got another Russian toy, a Smena 8, I guess it was.

Strange enough, but for 10 years or so, when I was living in 5 countries in Europe like Switzerland and visited some of the most beautiful places, I had no any camera, somehow totally forgot about photography… But in 2006 I got my first camera phone, Sony Ericsson W800i, and no return since then: whenever I step out of the house, I always look at where is a good subject to catch – wouldn’t leave without a camera, even if I just go shopping… Right now I am using another Sony Ericsson phone, C901 which is getting very old now but still doping a good job, and every now and then I have a Canon, Nikon of Fuji digital camera, if anyone was interested in the technical details.

UPDATE February 2017 Got a Sony Xperia X and I am learning its ways

One deciding moment was when a MySpace friend asked me if he could buy a poster of one of my photos that I posted just randomly: a tree in front of our window. I was busy with my singing things and didn’t think about making photography a career of whatsoever. But he explained to me that he was hearing impaired, therefore my songs didn’t mean anything for him, whereas he loved my pics.

Since then, some of my photos were featured on websites of travel sites, for example USA Today Travel, event calendars, news portals, or a representative book of my hometown Kazincbarcika, and this picture was an editorial pick on Art.com:

Photography is one of the best ways for me to clear my mind, and be creative – as a Singer, most of the times I sing songs by other people, but these pics are my babies only.
