Throwback Thursday: Ten years ago, in the beginning of August 2006, my then-husband and I had a weekend trip back to South-England, where we got married the year before. We had some business to do, therefore not much time to look around, but we managed to have a pleasant excursion. Staying somewhere around East Grinstead, we drove (of course, he did) to Plymouth.
Enjoy these impressions! Many of the photos were shot from the car. And I had my tiny little, lovely Sony Ericsson W880i camera phone, with 2MP pictures, can you imagine that now, in 2016?

Portsmouth Southsea Castle, built in 1544 by Henry VIII, and was said to have been designed by His Royal Self. It had several purposes through history, such as defence or a military prison. Today it is open for public visits, see info on the castle’s website www.southseacastle.co.uk.
This lighthouse is still serving seamen since almost 200 years, it was built in the 1820s:

Maybe this was still a suburb of Porstmouth – or some village on the way back. How can you know which one is your house??? Look:
Now this big cathedral below, you can’t miss. Except that I didn’t see the sign from the car, and I can’t find on Google Maps what town is this – does anyone recognize it? Between Portsmouth and Brighton.
Also, there is a great castle there:
And this is already Brighton where we didn’t even stop, but here is a little bright feeling:
The North Gate of Royal Pavilion: it was erected for King William IV, in 1832.
And another significant building: The White House! Somewhere along the roads.

For your next visit in England, I am not sure how much practical advice I can give you, because my ex was terrific at organizing and logistics, he took care of all the details – oh, that was so comfy! I only know that we flew from Stockholm to Gatwick Airport, there rented a car from Hertz and stayed at a B&B somewhere around East Grinstead or Gatwick.
